PMHUB-G JIMBOK 4th ed: Cost Management published in PMHUB Forums
Jim OwensPMP
There are strong parallels between cost estimating and time estimating so you should have experienced some déjà vu when you first read it. In fact they have five tools/techniques in common – expert judgment, analogous estimating, parametric estimating, three-point estimates and reserve analysis.
Due to technical difficulty in dsiplaying graphics and tables in this website, PMHUB archived all JIMBOK in JIMBOK Forum, in PMHUB Forums

PMHUB-G Re:Use a PMP Prep Library Approach to Optimize your PMP or CA
Folks,
I hate to continue to harp on the same theme, but while I understand the focus of everyone on passing the PMP exam, I see precious little being written here about increasing the level of understanding and competency of project managers.
I just hope that everyone realizes that if you pass your PMP exam and don't fully understand what you've learned in the context of actually running your projects better or more effectively, not only do you drag down the credibility of the PMP that you just worked so hard to get, but you also undermine the credibility of project management as a delivery system.
Bottom line- I would urge everyone in this forum to think long and hard about whether the objective should be passing your PMP as quickly and painlessly as possible or if the real objective should be learning how to better manage our projects, which, oh by the way, will enable us to pass the PMP (or any other) knowledge based credential.
Give it some thought…..
BR,
Dr. PDG, Jakarta

PMHUB-G New PMP Exam - the challenge & guide to overcome the challenge
This is one of the most helpful guide to overcome the difficulties many faced when studying and writing the PMP Exam,
The recent switch from PMBOK 3rd edition to 4th edition created opportunity for PMI to revise its exam.
Many PMP aspirants were studying using approach effective with the PMBOK 3rd ed exam.
Here Roger Chou provided aspirants with a new approach that proved to be so effective that within 1 month, more than 100 aspirants passed the exam

PMHUB-G Use a “PMP Prep Library” Approach to Optimize your PMP or CAPM Training
Your PMP prep project management training is much more than a series of online courses, video files, images, vocabulary lists, books, podcasts, and the like. To take control of your studies and time, you need to view your resources as a library that is completely at your disposal. And it is up to you to be an expert user of that library as part of your total PMP® exam study plan.
Yes, taking control of your library of resources will noticeably increase your chance of passing the PMP Exam. Here's how to do it:
1. Recognize when you need to master the theory, and in what areas. Look at the total picture of what you need to know, and continually assess your mastery of each area.
2. Find a way to mix real-world examples – such as online training or podcasts - to help you understand the PMBOK concepts. This will help you to "take ownership" of the concepts, making you a better project manager on the way to earning your PMP certification.
3. Build your PMP prep library with a blend of resources that will maximize your study time, and improve your overall efficiency. Utilize your "downtime" by reading a book or printouts, listening to a podcast, or maybe doing some practice questions. Have these things available for your on-demand use.
4. Master the material in bite-sized chunks. There are 42 processes and 9 knowledge areas, which may sound daunting, but if you cover 1 or 2 a day can get you through it all in about a month.
5. Keep your PMP prep library organized for easy retrieval. Many sources, such as searchable online training, books, and the like, are well organized and searchable naturally. Keep PMP prep library organized and be selective! Knowing what you do and don't know will enable you to select the materials to retrieve from your PMP prep library.
You will shorten your study time considerably by taking the "PMP prep library" approach. By so doing, you can recognize that you do not necessarily need to doggedly trudge through every last course, every last hour of training, or every last book. If you have training that you know will more than fulfill your 35 contact hours requirement, you can focus on learning what you need to study without worrying about "putting in the time". You can take control by selectively filling the gaps in your knowledge as you move closer to being ready to take the exam.

PMHUB-G Roger Chou PgMP:PgMP: The longest way is the quickest way – The PM-ABC’s Lesson Learned Method
"You might as well treat PMBOK as a dictionary. When you do not understand a certain term or concept, look it up and look at it. Since you are using it as a dictionary, you should not read it through in detail, from the first page to the last. You only have to look at key points and the parts you don't understand."
"Now, with the new exam getting even more difficult, any long term, repeatedly, un-targeted reading method won't make you ready for the Exam. I hope, our method gives you an idea, how to study efficiently, which enables you to have comprehensive knowledge and clear understanding of the concepts. I hope you all find your way to PMP Exam."
Details explanation of his method with tables and "prescriptions":

PMHUB-G GAPPS Working Session 17- Washington DC, USA Invitation- Opportunity to BENCHMARK Project & Program COMPETENCIES....
Colleagues,
The Global Alliance for Project Performance Standards will be conducting our next workshop in Washington, DC, and we hope we can generate significant interest from US Government Agencies and other interested parties in attending. During this session, we will be focusing on finishing up the PROGRAM MANAGER competency standards.
23 to 25 October, 2009
Glenn L. Martin Engineering Bldg
University of Maryland
Washington DC
The Global Alliance for Project Performance Standards (GAPPS- http://www.globalpmstandards.org/about-us/general/about-us/ ) is a group of highly respected global professionals who have developed a set of Project and Program Manager COMPETENCY standards. This group formed to fill a need for a global organization that will facilitate mutual recognition and transferability of project management qualifications. Essentially, we see ourselves as “the Linux of project performance standards”.
Consistent with these concerns, not only are these standards INDEPENDENT of any specific Body of Knowledge (i.e. PMI's PMBOK) or Methodology (i.e. APM's PRINCE2) but we have made these standards freely available through "open source" or "creative commons" licensing. (Meaning anyone can download them at no cost, use them as is or adapt or improve on them, with few constraints or limitations)
To download the project manager competency standards, point your browser to http://www.globalpmstandards.org/listing/project-manager-standards with the note that the program manager competency standards should be on the internet within the coming month or so. (Pay special attention to the copyright agreement on page 2)
To conclude, the next GAPPS Workshop is scheduled to be held at the University of Maryland, October 23-26th, 2009, and we would cordially invite GAO or other US Government representatives to participate in this workshop, where you can contribute to the further development of the project and program management competency standards and/or benchmark your existing bodies of knowledge (i.e. GAO-09-3SP) or competencies (i.e. http://www.federalpm.com/articles/pm_comp.php) against those we have developed.
I have attached the invitation form and if you have any questions, please feel free to contact the GAPPS secretariat, Ms. Melody Framp, secretariat@globalpmstandards.org
Also feel free to pass it along to anyone else in your network who is concerned about project management COMPETENCY and is looking for INDEPENDENT standards against which to benchmark their standards.
Respectfully,

PMHUB-G RESEND (due to Link problem): Hard to get LL of new PMP Exam. Why?
Yes, it is harder to get those LLs from new PMPs. Is the passing grade too high => too many failures?
It also seems like many failed in the old PMP PMBOK 3rd exam last June. Reason is that the readership of PMHUB articles on PMBOK 3rd vs PMBOK 4th ed still have very high viewership: In fact I was planning to retire these artciles since according to my intuition it is no more relevant. In fact it is still relevant. Many still Googled on the differences btw 3rd and 4th. My conclusion is that thse are people who studied for the old exam and failed. Hence they need to repeat the exam bsed on PMBOK 4th ed and need to know the diff btw 4th ed and 3rd ed
These 2 articles below are still getting much higher viewership than other plain PMBOK 4th ed articles:
PMBOK 4th ed vs 3rd ed and what it means to you
Summary of PMBOK 3rd edition vs PMBOK 4th edition & references
Roger has written 2 detail LLs from interviews with the first 12 successful PMP aspirants and then from more than 100 succesful PMP aspirants
this is the LLs:
1. summary of interveiw with 12 new PMP: http://linkbee.com/int12PMP
2. further interview with >100 new PMP http://linkbee.com/roger2nd
We also received one from Tordub of Dublin which is titled
Tordub: Passed PMP , July 14, Dublin
Recently we have Jim-BC's LL:
Jim-BC: Passed PMP on Aug 13 2009
