PMHUB-G PMBOK 5 again - good news and bad news?

PMI is scheduled to publish the 5th Edition of the PMBOK® Guide on Jan 1, 2013 and we can expect the PMP and CAPM exams to change on the third quarter of 2013. So practically we have about 6 months to deal with PMP/CAPM Exam based on PMBOK 4 [...]

PMHUB-G JIm Owens tips on PMP Exam

PMI wrote the PMBOK and they will be marking the exam, so they are right always and without exception.
The questions you must always ask yourself are, "what does the PMBOK say?" or "what would a PMP do?" And for those of you who think that you can forget the PMBOK after you pass the exam – just hold on a moment. PMBOK wasn't written by a group of academics in an ivory tower – it was written by thousands of real Project Managers managing countless real projects in many countries, so maybe they know a thing or two.

PMHUB-G New PMBOK, what to do?

Read this article: http://www.pmhub.net/wp/2012/07/the-perennial-question-the-new-pmbok-is-soon-out-should-i-write-the-exam-now-or-later/

And a great comment by a member:

1 comment to The Perennial Question: The New PMBOK is soon out – Should I write the Exam now or later?

  • PMI has announced that the test based on PMBOK5 will not be available until July 2013. And we know from seeing an exposure draft that instead of there being 9 knowledge areas there will be 10. So, more to study. And further, we know that they'll mix up the Inputs, Outputs, Tools and Techniques enough that PMBOK4 will effectively no longer be a useful study tool.

So my advice would be if you have the time and bandwidth to study now, study and take the test ASAP. No reason at all to wait. If you feel like you're missing something by not studying PMBOK5, well the new knowledge area is Stakeholder Management, something currently covered under Communications. So all they've really done is pulled an already existing piece of knowledge out and elevated it to its own knowledge area.

PMHUB-G John P. Reiling, PMP: A Balance of “Style” and “Substance” Will Bring You PM Success

Style without substance – or substance without style – is sure to reduce your effectiveness on projects.

Here's why.

SUBSTANCE – a "left brain" operation characterized by logic, language and analytical thinking – is all about WHAT you communicate.

STYLE – a "right brain" operation related to expressive and creative tasks – is all about HOW you communicate.

Here's why both style and substance are equally important for your effectiveness on projects:

PMHUB-G Schedule Variance (Positive fine, but why not equal to zero?)

We all will be happy in real life if project is ahead of the schedule, i.e. schedule variance is a positive value.

However, keeping PMP exam and PMI guidelines in mind- Can a PM sit back and relax if Project is ahead of the schedule? or PMI expects PM to investigate why project is NOT AS PER schedule but ahead of it?

I think to pass this exam we need to know what PMI thinks rather than anything else, hence this question. Thank you!
