RE: PMHUB-G Project Management Case Studies

Hi Aseem,
Probably the two classic collection of case studies are Cleland, Bursic,
Puerzer and Vlasak's "Project Management Casebook" 1997 and Kerzner's
"Bible", "Project Management- A Systems Approach.....". (Note that I THINK
Kerzner took the case studies out of the later editions of the book, but
don't have the latest version in my library to verify that)

Another possible source....... Professor Frank Anbari, edited/edits the
work of his students from the GWU MSc in Project Management program, and at
one time, I believe PMI published these case studies, but that was back in
2004 or maybe 2005? I don't know if subsequent classes have continued doing
those case studies or not.

One final note- If you check your PMBOK Guide, page 4, you will see that PMI
does NOT promulgate "best practices" at all..... merely "good" practices or
those "used on most projects, most of the time". (I consider that to be
"average" practices)

Now, given projects fail with such alarming regularity, I would urge some
caution in you really believe that using the PMBoK Guide as the basis for
managing your projects will result in "better" project management......

PMHUB-G PMBOK 3 and PMBOK 4 - in one exam? Is it still this way?

Wonder why http://linkbee.com/PMBOK3-4 is HOT?
Seem that new exam used both PMBOK 3 and 4.

Is this still happening?

PMHUB-G John Reiling: Embrace the ITIL Trend – Advance Your Career in IT Project Management

Do you work in the Information Technology field (IT), or are you in any way concerned about the success or failure of IT projects in your organization?

The fact is that, for years now, IT's track record of failed projects has been under great business scrutiny. Up until around the year 2000, IT projects were often approved simply because they were IT projects – and were seen as a necessary expenditure to either keep up with or get ahead of competitors. CIOs and other C-level executives today recognize that IT itself is not a silver bullet, but rather can only work if implemented and managed well.

PMHUB-G Behavioral competencies framework

Hi Thiery,

Yes, I have done exactly the kind of research you are seeking……..  The BEHAVIORAL profiles of successful project managers.  So has Max Wideman, www.maxwideman.com

You can download the research I have done on your topic here…….. http://www.build-project-management-competency.com/download-page/

At the same time, you may also be interested in the research I have done comparing the 25+ professional credentials available for project managers……..

Also, be sure to check out the COMPETENCY standards created by the Global Alliance for Project Performance Standards (GAPPS) www.globalpmstandards.org  These are OPEN SOURCE (no cost) standards.  The nice thing about these standards is they are INDEPENDENT of any Body of Knowledge (i.e. PMI’s PMBOK) or methodology (i.e. PRINCE2)

PM behavioural competences framework

Hello dear PM community,

I know IPMA's < competency baseline > to summarize all skills a PM should
possess, including, and this is what I have interest in right now, the
behavioural skills. I have been searching for other complete and
authoritative models for behavioural skills for project managers (or maybe,
why not, for managers in general), whithout finding any, except, possibly,
Watts Humphreys' TSP.

Does any one of you know of any other such framework that maybe I missed ?

The PMBOK does not contain any, or very few, behavioural guidelines ? Or
does it and I have missed it ?

Thank you a lot for your feedback,

Best regards,

Thierry

PMHUB-G Update to the Project Management Certifications Compared Scoring Model..... http://www.pmhub.net/wp/2009/12/dr-pd-giammalvo-a-comparison-of-pm-certifications-a-preliminary-model/

Hi Folks,
Following up on the “Project Management Certifications Compared” posted last
week http://www.pmhub.net/wp/2009/12/dr-pd-giammalvo-a-comparison-of-pm-certifications-a-preliminary-model/ , based on inputs from some interested volunteers, I have UPDATED the SPREADSHEET model to include the US Professional Engineer (PE) licensing process.

So now we not only have a meaningful zero point, we have a recognized and highly respected professional LICENSE near the top end to get more of a sense of the relative ranking of each of the credentials.

To download the revised file, go to http://www.build-project-management-competency.com/download-page/, then look for “Project Management Certifications Compared” but be sure to download the Excel Spreadsheet.

PMHUB-G Revision to JOMBOK 4th edition

The zipped file that was attached to the message was corrupted and nobody could open the file.\\This JIMBOK update is now corrected and you also can help PMHUB and Jim to improve the Study Notes. Please VOTE in the JIMBOK Poll! Tell Jim what you think of his Study Notes....

PMHUB-G Are you a PMO Expert? Are you looking for the "next step" beyond your PMP? Why not consider AACE's much more technically demanding credentials? http://www.aacei.org/certification/

Colleagues,
PTMC/APMX http://www.build-project-management-competency.com is pleased to announce that our next "blended learning" (combined face to face and distance learning mode) experiential based certification exam prep courses will be kicking off on Monday, February 15th, Gran Mahakam Hotel, Jakarta, Indonesia.

This is a GRADUATE level course, equivalent to two semesters (6 US credit hours or 10 EU credit hours) and is designed to help you actually learn how to use the tools and techniques of our trade. (Transferable, Graduate Level Credit is available at an additional cost from SKEMA Business School http://www.skema.edu/en )

Our fully integrated, experiential based course will prepare you or your people to sit for any one of a number of internationally recognized certifications, including the: Certified Cost Engineer and/or Certified Cost Consultant (CCE or CCC) http://www.aacei.org/certification/CCC/welcome.shtml and/or Earned Value (EVP) http://www.aacei.org/certification/EVP/welcome.shtml and/or Professional & Planning and Scheduling Professional (PSP)http://www.aacei.org/certification/PSP/welcome.shtml and/or Cost Estimating Professional (CEP) http://www.aacei.org/certification/CEP/

This course is designed not only to teach you or your people the "hard" skills associated with asset, portfolio, program and project management, but also to help participants develop the "soft" skills- leadership, communications, motivating, conflict resolution, problem solving and making things happen.

For those who are interested, this course can be done TOTALLY via distance learning, however, it is recommended that participants plan on joining the 5 day face to face kick off session in Jakarta, Indonesia.

For more information, email Ms. Yani Suratman- yanis@ptmc-apmx.com  OR visit our website, http://www.build.project-management-competency.com
