PMHUB-G Does FREE, OPEN SOURCE COMPETENCY Standards for Project and Program Managers sound like something of interest to you or your organization?

Dear Colleagues,

PTMC is pleased to announce that Bali, Indonesia has been selected as the site of the next Global Alliance for Project Performance Standards (GAPPS) workshop, http://www.globalpmstandards.org/ where we will be FINALIZING the development of PROGRAM MANAGER competency standards for release as an exposure draft. http://www.globalpmstandards.org/index.php/program-manager-standards/current-status.html

This 3 day event is scheduled for 5, 6 and 7 February, 2010, Kuta, Bali. (See below for detailed itinerary)

For those not familiar with the Global Alliance for Project Performance Standards,  we are an Australian based, globally recognized NOT FOR PROFIT professional organization, http://www.globalpmstandards.org/index.php/about-us.html dedicated to creating COMPETENCY standards for project http://www.globalpmstandards.org/index.php/project-manager-standards/download-latest-update.html and program managers which are INDEPENDENT of any single body of knowledge, methodology or organization.

But more importantly for Indonesia and other developing nations, we have put these standards into the “public domain” under “open source” or “creative commons” license, meaning anyone is free to download them and use them at any time, at NO COST. (See page 2 of the standards for the copyright agreement) http://www.globalpmstandards.org/index.php/project-manager-standards/download-latest-update.html

For background information, the work GAPPS is doing is supported by Motorola, Shell Oil, American Express, NASA Academy, ESC Lille, UTS Sydney, Bond University, University of Maryland, Cambridge University, South African Government, Queensland Government, International Project Management Association (IPMA), Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering International (AACE)  and many other academic, professional, governmental and private sector organizations.  Several leading Indonesian practitioners have played a active role over the past 10 years in developing these standards and making them available at no cost. http://www.globalpmstandards.org/index.php/current-members/

We truly hope that Asian academics, practitioners, companies, NGO’s, professional organizations and GoI representatives will join this 3 day workshop.

For more information or to register for this program, email Ms. Yani Suratman, yanis@ptmc-apmx.com OR Ms. Melody Framp, GAPPS secretariat, secretariat@globalpmstandards.org

Feel free to pass this along to anyone/everyone in your network who may be interested in attending.

BR,

Dr. PDG, Jakarta

PMHUB-G Hi From A New Member

There's always something exciting to me about a motivational website or program. I know that I'm bound to learn something important.

I really liked this website. It teaches us how to become a charismatic, engaging communicator, to use humor, create energy and spontaneity, sell our ideas, think fast on our feet. It's called "Creating a Powerful Presence" By Bert Decker.

Re: PMHUB-G PMP training insitute in Bangalore?

Hi,

The website www.seedinfotech.com has all the details about the phone numbers and the schedules for their classes are also posted there. Try and get the trainer Sameer Kamalapurkar, he is good. My husband and I attended his classes. (Of course other trainers at their institute would be good too).

Best regards, Anjali.

PMHUB-G Barton Miranda & his PMP secrets

do not miss this LL. Most comprehensive and provide lots of details for you to pick up .....

"I would like to take some time to share my experiences with how I prepared for taking the PMP exam.  I found the postings of past test-takers on PMHUB to be extremely helpful in shaping my preparation which allowed me to pass the PMP exam on my first try, and I wanted to give back to the community in return.

PMHUB-G Leverage "Just in time Learning” Concepts for Certification Success

Perhaps you are familiar with the JIT concept? How does it apply to your PMP exam learning process? John P Reiling comes up with a novel idea.

"Just in time learning" concepts can allow us to learn faster and understand better.  The basic concept is that we learn "just in time" for us to use the knowledge.  That way, we can apply it right away, and in doing so, we firm up our knowledge.  The idea is that if we do not apply what we learn right away, that knowledge withers away and disappears.

The blog is published in PMHUB Blog here: http://linkbee.com/JPJIT

PMHUB-G Joseph Phillips, PMP: Defining the Project Scope

During the initiating process you and the project customer created requirements that defined the basic ideas of the project. This document is elaborated upon, and the project scope is now created. In addition to the preliminary project scope statement, you'll use the project charter, historical information if you've done projects like this one before, and approved change requests that may have trickled in. (Here's an example of how you won't have many change requests affecting the project scope early in the project, but as the project moves through its execution change requests can become more common.)

Re: PMHUB-G New & FREE study tool - Cherries PMBOK 4th ed ITTO

Cheriies, the author - posted the file in PMHUB Forums. It is PMHUB policy in the forums to protect the authors/members privacy and that is one of the main reasons of why PMHUB setup this PMHUB Forums.

My suggestion is that you just correct all the mistakes amd posted the new version (or if you do not want to become a member of PMHUB Forums - send the file to me pmhub@pmhub.net) and we can call this new table: Cherries-Andy ITTO

PMHUB-G PgMP Lessons Learnt - success story of Rajesh

General Observation on PgMP credential
•A 'gruelling subjective' exam requiring an in-depth knowledge of the program PMI terminology/theory.
•More importantly is your experience in handling programs or large/multiple projects which is a MUST have to pass.
•Surviving this exam definitely sets the "bar exam" for Program Managers.

We used Basecamp and were comfortable using it. But found out that we do mostly files sharing and as a result using an SVN tool for file sharing proved more effective.

Some of them I have used or review are

BaseCamp (Fairly popular, ease to use)
AgileBuddy (Not too many features)
Mingle
TargetProcess (Seems robust)
Extremeplanners

or

Custom developed

PMHUB-G Joseph Phillips: Writing Project Charter

The project charter authorizes the project. This document officially initiates the project and gives the project manager the authority to use organizational monies and resources to reach the objectives of the project. It's a powerful document, and without one of these you're setting yourself (and often your project) up for failure.

How to write the charter?
