PMHUB-G Natetc Get Certified in CAPM and PMP within 12 months period
"So I passed the PMP on Monday, two days before the examination change. The only difference between myself and everyone else is that I took and passed the CAPM last year which provided a great foundation and gave me experience for what to expect on the PMP. I used a full 2 months to complete this, studied 1-2 hours during the weekdays and a lot more on weekends."

PMHUB-G Gavin Yip targetted August 30 and passed the exam August 28
"At this point, a total budget of USD600 is assigned and around 80 man-hours is estimated. Having reviewed my plans, and consulted a critical stakeholder - my wife, it is approved. I moved straight into execution phase on the 5 Aug with a focus on Mr Philips's course as the first stage.
Thanks to Mr. Philips' course, I committed around 2 hours a day on the first week and was able to complete the first 7 parts of the course by the 13 Aug. It gives me the assurance that I need to proceed further. I was also making use the excellent notes from JIM Owens to complement the study. Thanks Jim!"

PMHUB-G Breaking News: "AACE Announces Ground Breaking IP Policy Change for Authors/Contributors to the Asset, Program and Project Management Body of Knowledge"
Dear PM Hub Colleagues- For those of you who are academics or cutting edge practitioners, here is something really important about a major change in IP Policy by the Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering International (AACEi)
“On August Friday, 26, 2011, the US based Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering International, announced a major shift in the IP policy of most US based, global professional organizations by announcing that effective immediately, instead of contributors having to sign over their intellectual property to the organization, including the rights to any derivative works, AACE has changed the policy so that now, contributors do NOT have to give up their rights of ownership or the rights to any derivative works, but are merely granting an extensive license to AACE to use the author/contributors IP while leaving ownership with the contributor.
This policy is consistent with the intent of Creative Commons licensing http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/ and represents a major departure from the policy of most other US based professional organizations. In making this change, it is anticipated that AACE will attract both academics and practitioners doing cutting edge research and innovative implementations and has been designed especially to appeal to the Generation X and Generation Y practitioners, who are fast becoming today’s leaders.
To see the complete wording of this innovative and progressive IP agreement, point your browser here http://www.aacei.org/am/guidelines/welcome.shtml and download the “Publications and Speaker Agreement”.
Compare this against the IP policies of YOUR current professional organization and see which organization you would rather share your knowledge and experience with.

Dr. Paul D. Giammalvo, CDT, CCE, MScPM, MRICS

PMHUB-G Just a few hours ago, another PMP! Dhinakar is now a PMP Aug 22, 2011
Important message from Dhinakar
Finally, regarding the exam pattern changes, I feel it is better to take the current exam pattern before 31st Aug.11 if you are confident and well prepared. Else, if you are planning to take the new exam pattern then it is advisable to wait and watch because if you miss out in the first attempt it will dent your confidence a bit too much. Also, I feel the questions related to 'Professional & Social Responsibility' are quite tricky in the current exam itself. I found the choices were quite too close to eliminate. So imagine if they are going to sprayed it ('Professional & Social Responsibility') all over the other knowledge areas in the new exam (just my opinion).

PMHUB-G Hey, Today another PMP - Pradeep is now PMP just few hours ago!
I'm pleased to announce that I cleared my PMP Exam. Let me thank
numerous good wishes from my friends, support forums like here. I
appeared the course about 2 months back, I set a target of 45 days for
the prep. My colleague and I started a study group, we were nearly 5,
but only 2 of us appeared for the exam and both of us cleared it
gladly.
Exam had its standard, it was neither very tough nor very easy,
knowing concepts is the key. I was able to answer all the question in
3 hours 40 mins, but used complete 4 hours. It had nearly 20% of each
areas, ITTO related, risk response strategies, cost management
calculations questions respectively, rest focused on the depth of
understanding across all the areas. Memorizing things will not help in
this exam.
Here is how I prepared:

PMHUB-G Changes in PMP Exam - August 2011 & the latest update July 19, 2011
be changes in Sept 2011? What will change and what is the impact?
This will be the last distribution of this message....
Here is what has been published:
Changes in PMP Exam - August 2011 & the latest update July 19, 2011
The latest news dated July 19 2011 indicates the PMI will hold PMP
Exam result for 4 to 6 weeks - if you write the exam in the Aug 31 -
Mid October period. During that time, you will not know whether you
passed or failed and you have to wait until PMI sent you the exam
result.
Here is the opinion of PMHUB's columnist and fame author of PMPrepcast
and its family of products:
Cornelius Fichtner, PMP: Why PMI Won't Say If You Passed Or Failed Your PMP Exam
"On Tuesday July 19th, REPs were informed by PMI that there are
additional significant changes to the PMP exam and results measuring
system after the new exam begins on August 31st, 2011.
Amongst these and perhaps the most significant change is the decision
by PMI to hold test scores for students within the first 4 to 6 weeks
of taking the exam after August 31, 2011. Currently, students receive
immediate notification of their scores upon completion of the exam.
Students who sit for the exam within the first 4-6 week period after
August 31st, will receive email notification from PMI once their test
scores are ready.
If you are unable to sit for the PMP exam before August 31st, and need
to take the exam before mid October (no exact date has been specified
by PMI as of print time), you will be required to wait the 4-6 week
waiting period for your exam results. If you have an employment
opportunity that is awaiting your PMP exam results, you should speak
with your employer to discuss your options and the additional required
wait time.
Please contact PMI if you have further questions regarding this change:
PMI contact:
E-mail: customercare@pmi.org (preferred method)"
The original change was announced last October and republished here
to warn PMHUB members of the coming changes this August 31. From our
point of view, it will be better if this change is introduced together
with the implementation of the PMP Exam based on PMBOK 5. rather than
having 2 changes within the period.
As a current credential holder how does this impact me? Are there any
changes for renewing my credential?
If you currently hold the PMP credential, the release of the new RDS
has limited impact for yousince the primary result of the RDS is to
update the PMP examination. PMI will review the results of this RDS to
determine whether it requires updates be made to the PMP Continuing
Certification Requirements (CCR) program. PMI expects that any changes
to this program will be announced in Q4 2010.
When will the changes to the PMP examination take place?
The new examination is scheduled to be released on 31 August 2011.
This means that the last day to take the current PMP examination is 30
August 2011. Candidates who would like to take the current version of
the examination are advised to schedule their examinations early to
better ensure that they are able to obtain a test date before the
examination update.
Are the eligibility criteria (contact hours / project management
experience hours) changing?
No – the eligibility criteria will remain the same. Only the
multiple-choice examination contentof the PMP is changing
What version of a Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge
(PMBOK®Guide)should I study for the updated PMP examination?
The update of the examination for the new RDS does not affect the
PMBOK®Guide, so candidates should continue to study the Fourth
Edition, as well as other current project management titles.
Is there going to be a change to the PMBOK®Guide—Fourth Edition?
No. The update of the examination to align with the new RDS does not
affect the PMBOK®Guide
Will the score report be changing?
At this time, PMI does not anticipate any changes will be made to
the PMP score report.
Will PMI provide a full refund if I am unable to take the exam
before the new exam is released?
No. PMI is announcing the change to the PMP examination approximately
11 months before it is implemented so that all PMP candidates have the
time required to take the examination before it is updated.
Will PMI have expanded scheduling options at the test centers to
ensure that allcandidates can take the exam prior to updates taking
place?
PMI is working with our testing partner, Prometric
Will There Be Significant Differences Between the Existing Exam and
the New One?
Approximately 30% of the PMP exam content will change as a result of
new or substantial changes to reflect the project manager's role as
defined by the recent study. Changes to the exam will be implemented
through existing items being updated as appropriate, new examination
items being developed to meet these requirements, and old items that
do not meet the criteria being retired.
Also, certain areas of the examination will be tested in a different
way because an existing domain was seen to be common across all
content areas of the examination. Specifically, the Professional and
Social Responsibility content area (Domain 6) will now be tested in
every domain, rather than as a separate domain on the examination.
What is the Release Date of the New Exam?
A new version of the PMP® exam will be placed into worldwide use for
any and all PMI® credential examinations taken on or after August
31st, 2011. Is this New Exam a Result of Changes to The PMBOK® Guide?
No. Exam takers should continue to reference A Guide to the Project
Management Body of Knowledge—Fourth Edition (2008) until a new PMBOK®
Guide is released, around 2012.
Will There Be Changes to the Eligibility Criteria, Application
Process, or Passing Score?
According to PMI, the education and experience requirements that
define the eligibility for the existing PMP examination remain
appropriate and will not be changed.
What Are You Supposed to Do Now?
Although PMI is planning on changing approximately 30% of the PMP®
examination, these changes will NOT be effective until August 31st of
2011. Therefore, any students planning to sit for the exam before
August 31st of 2011 must continue to use currently available,
non-updated materials. The Project Management Professional (PMP)®
credential examination will be updated in 2011, based on updates to
the professional role of a PMP® recently found in PMI's Role
Delineation Study (RDS).
What do I need to know about the changes to the PMP credential and examination?
The process for updating the PMP begins with the RDS, which is now
complete. Learn more about the RDS. These updates to the role do have
an effect on the examination questions for the PMP, and will be
reflected in the PMP examination starting 31 August 2011.

PMHUB-G Alexius' LL - what study materials?
PMP. This was very helpful to me because it provided a very good
insight to the PMBOK guide, and made my studies more interesting. I
also purchased the PM Formula guide by Cornelius Fichner. This made my
understandinig of the formulae very easy, and i was able to reproduce

PMHUB-G New way to stop spammers from joining Forums
their registration is accepted. The question is simple and involve
knowing about PMP, PMI and PMBOK.
If you by any reason failed to pass the test, please write to
pmhub@pmhub.net for members activation
For years we depended on CAPTCHA where you have to guess what a random
string of characters.
Using CAPTCHA, spammers perform well but many of us who wear eye
glasses failed.
Then for more than one year, we used manual activation. The manual
activation is based on the assumption that PMs read PMHUB admin
instruction on what to do and request for activation. In fact, many
PMs ignore the instruction and some spammer read the instruction and
request for activation.
In the last 7 days, at least 1,000 spammers failed to register - this
is a good sign. However we are not sure how many PMs were not able to
register. If you are one of those, please write to pmhub@pmhub.net

RES: PMHUB-G What is the difference
Have a look at PMBOK Guide. There you can find explicitly the different
objectives for Project, Program and Portfolio Management.

aligned with organizational strategy;
Program management should search to increment the benefits, the
organization expects from the products, the projects promise to deliver
Project Management focuses on delivering the products, the project was
created for, in a timely manner, in budget, quality and scope, respecting
the companies risk acceptance profile and making the client and other
stakeholders as happy as necessary for to keep the project viable.

Assunto: PMHUB-G What is the difference
Hi,
I just finished reading chapter 2 of PM-BOK (Rita).
The project objectives are mentioned in the page no: XX,
I was wondering what are the program and portfolio objectives? are these the
same as project objectives, because the program is the group of projects and
portfolio is the group of programs.
Waiting for reply.
Thanks,
Regards,
Jimmy

PMHUB-G FW: Don't Forget to Sign Up for the 12th Annual Owner's Survey
VERY credible survey for those who are project manager at OWNER companies……… (Those for whom projects represent cash outflows or investments, as opposed to those who make money doing the projects (Contractors))
For those who are RESEARCHERS, FMI produces some OUTSTANDING research on construction projects from an owners perspective.

RE: PMHUB-G Will the new PMP Exam include ethics questions for non-profit board members?
Hi David,
Sooner or later, all true leaders run afoul of “the establishment”……. The simple fact we are agents of change makes us targets for those who want to resist change…….
The important thing is NOT TO EVER GIVE UP. Sooner or later, if we are truly on the side of what is “right” and what is “good”, we will be exonerated…. And I have absolutely no question in my mind that you are as committed and dedicated to the practice of project and program management as I am.
Perseverance is the key!!!
And THANK YOU, for being willing to recognize the vindictiveness of these “hierarchies” and for being willing to stand up to them by speaking out….. Only a handful of us around willing to take that risk….

Hi David,
While I certainly can commiserate with you, once we fully understand the nature of these “professional societies” as being nothing more than a form of trade union, designed first and foremost to protect the interests of those who formed them, it becomes much easier to appreciate why they do the things they do.
Some selections from my PhD dissertation “Is project management a profession? And if not, what is it” should provide some insight as to the thinking behind your legitimate and valid complaint.
And yes, I agree FULLY with you that the way to express your concerns is to VOTE WITH YOUR FEET- that is, find other organizations which share the values and standards you hold.
Eliot Freidson (1970), argued that the “professions differ from trade unions only in their sanctimoniousness”…..
And Haga (1974) in particular, although a rather obscure researcher, published a pithy and hard hitting description of the difference between true professions and ‘would be’ professions in the Management Quarterly Review. In this article he noted:
The utility of distinguishing between the true professions and merely ‘would be’ professions can be appreciated when one looks at why so many occupations pursue the elusive status of profession. Here are the chief things that occupational groups seek when they undertake ‘professionalization’:
– Above all else, they want AUTONOMY. That is, they want freedom from supervision in carrying out their jobs;
– They want RECOGNITION based not upon the name of their employer, but upon their identity with their occupation;
– They want the POWER to determine who is ‘in’ their occupation from those who are ‘out’;
– They want to establish a MONOPOLY over a certain line of work, freeing it from influence of ‘outsiders’ (mostly employers, but also clients and the general public) who do not share or necessarily understand the ideology;
– They want the POWER to discipline wayward colleagues who deviate from their work ideology. (p. 4)
Haga (1974) goes further to explain that:
there is no denying that once autonomy is achieved, greater success in negotiating for monetary rewards will likely follow. While money cannot be totally dismissed as an important professionalizing force, establishing autonomy becomes the means to that end. (p. 4)
But even more relevant to project management, Haga (1974) states:
the chief means of maintaining autonomy is INTIMIDATION. The essence of truly professional behavior lies in intimidation – of clients; of employers; of whatever audience stands to threaten a profession’s autonomy. (p. 6)

Subject: PMHUB-G Will the new PMP Exam include ethics questions for non-profit board members?
Importance: High
Dear friends,
Having failed in my efforts to convince the board of directors of a local 501(c)6 professional league organization that requiring members to travel to a specific hotel in order to vote is an implicit poll tax, I found a way to vote remotely by cancelling my membership in that local organization.
Without naming names, I think that individual board members who would vote to impose such an implicit poll tax by a permanent change in that organization’s bylaws and then permit only those members who are able to travel to that specific hotel to vote on those change and/or cast ballots should resign or be replaced.
Such policies suggest to me that the majority of the leadership team trying to impose such a policy is either selfish (elitist) and/or stupid (incompetent) because the weighted average travel distance surely is greater than 20 miles (each way). At $0.50 per mile the travel cost alone of casting a ballot would average at least $20 excluding the value of the individual’s travel time to and from the voting location. Those who travel for work likely would be under-represented.
The carbon footprint alone of such a policy is sufficient to call into question the competence and/or motives of those supporting such a policy. Each thousand ballots likely would involve 40,000 commuter miles driven in large city traffic plus a thousand hours of lost productivity. What kind of reputation does that create for the “professional” community involved?
Can you imagine what the outcry would be if a large organization (e.g. the Project Management Institute) would require members to travel to Newton Square, PA in order to vote?
In most professional societies, speaking out on such matters would be an obligation (or at least an implicit responsibility), and those who care most about the integrity and/or reputation of the organization would be among the first to engage in passionate discussion toward resolution.
If you encounter such an organization and wish to avoid being subjected to the time-consuming task of defending yourself against ad hominem abusive attacks (e.g. being accused of violating the organization’s code of ethics), you might want to consider following my example and cancel your local membership or transfer your local membership to different local chapter or section that lets you vote without driving to a hotel.
In most cases, local chapter or section affiliation transfers can be completed quickly by calling the member services department at your organization’s headquarters.
I would be interested in hearing your thoughts.
Best regards, David

RE: PMHUB-G Will the new PMP Exam include ethics questions for non-profit board members?
In 1974, Dr. Rory O'Day published an article in the Journal of Applied Behavioral Science in which he described the "Intimidation Rituals"; a process of bureaucratic opposition that provokes hierarchical retaliation following a fourfold pattern:
• Nullification
• Isolation
• Defamation
• Expulsion
The fact that after nearly forty years, the original article continues to be cited in journals and books, reprinted in texts, and reproduced for use in university and college courses, suggests to us that the model reflects something real and enduring about organizational life that seems independent of the purpose of the organization (e.g., educational, religious, political, military, profit/non-profit, professional, recreational, governmental and non-governmental).
In short, anywhere there is a hierarchy, there are the intimidation rituals waiting to be invoked anytime the hierarchy is threatened for whatever reason. The target could be a whistle-blower, a reformer with an agenda for change, or simply just somebody whose difference clashes with the profile of the "ideal" organizational member.
