PMHUB-G Abdallah's LL on PMP Exam

I then realized that this test is different. It's not about how much you study but how you study. There was a lot of material to go through and digest, and I knew that one book is not going to be enough.

I got "How to pass on your first try" for Andy Crowe, and I'm so glad I did. What is nice about the book is the way it's written which makes studying fun. PmBok, at least to me, was very dry, and I think this is why many PMP aspirants hesitate to take the test. You need a book that helps you understand the material, yet provide some questions that are as close to the real exam as possible.

PMHUB-G Shabarish - how I got PMP after my name

At this moment I would like to thank PMHUB since I was a regular reader of the PM forums and specially the LL's section on your website which helped me in my preparation especially few days before my exam.

PMHUB-G Ramesh's LL: Man... this book is a gem

I bought Cornelius Fichtner's PM Prepcast. Its a good podcast and he clearly explains the processes by giving relevant examples. I did notice that podcast is little bit cheesy at times, all in all I was happy with the podcast, I wish he had few practice questions at the end of chapters though. Once Podcast is complete I took test on PMSTUDY and decided I needed more preparation, I went my local library and was lucky to find Headfirst PMP book. Man, this book is a gem, It brings all of the processes,

PMHUB-G a MUST READ PMP Exam Lessons Learned - Barton Miranda's LL

This is one of the MUST read LL: do not miss to read this LL at least once

.... 2 weeks into my study I discovered the PMHUB forum and read how successful test takers prepared and studied for the exam.  It changed my whole gameplan.  From the forum posts, I discovered other test-taking guides and materials, including Andy Crowe's The PMP Exam, online exams such as Oliver Lehman, and Rita's PM Fastrack simulation exam software. I incorporated these into my studies.  I adjusted my studying gameplan, taking many of Ashley Larson's approach (thanks Ashley!) into consideration, since her study timeframe and approach were similar to mine.

So my new gameplan was as follows: .....

PMHUB-G Sharing PMP Exam LL - Gwennie

For me, memorization was only good for the EV formulas. The exam is testing your understanding and knowledge of what to do in specific situations for the various processes. The only way to gain that knowledge is to understand each process in it's entirety: 1)what is the intent of the process 2)what do you need to complete it (inputs) 3)how do you go about doing it (Ts/Ts) and

PMHUB-G Gwennie' LL - what worked and what did not ...

Some of the things that I did along the way to help with comprehension is what I'd now consider to be overkill. I had made myself some flashcards for definitions and some other flashcards for the processes and their respective ITTOs with the intention of trying to memorize them. Thank goodness I read someone else's LL not too long ago about not trying to memorize ITTOs. After having taken the exam today myself....

PMHUB-G PMP Exam Tip: The Project Schedule

In project management, a schedule consists of a list of a project's tasks with intended start and finish dates. Tasks are the lowest element in a schedule; they are not further subdivided. Those items are estimated in terms of resource requirements, budget and duration, linked by dependencies and scheduled. Project Scheduling helps identify all of the tasks that are required to complete a project on time. It adds dependencies between tasks so that if one task slips, the tasks related to it slip. ....

PMHUB-G The 1st of 2011, Micaehl Fickery PMP as of 1/11/11

Begin reading the PMBOK it was really hard and rough for the first time. Don't Worry the first time you will find it rough this is so normal. I think on the first time it is really enough to know the what are the Knowledge areas , what are the process groups , and that each process have inputs , outputs and Tools used and  they are repeated between process, and some outputs are inputs to other process.

PMHUB-G John Varghes: I learned from Lessons learned

I also have to say researching on the LL's from PMHUB helped me out tremendously, I read on a fellow member's post that to use a brain dump strategy right after you start the tutorial at the test site. I took this method and I added my own twist, I practiced the brain dump and I timed myself, each time I did one I tried to keep it under 15 minutes.

PMHUB-G Ashley Larson's PMP Exam Lessons Learned

As suggested by others, I took the time during the 15-minute tutorial, not only to read and make sure I understood it, but also to write down various equations I thought would be important (EV, PV, CPI, SPI – Crowe provides a list of suggestions).  Writing the equations down saved me time in the long run when I hit a question that required a calculation.  As for the exam itself, I spent just over two hours answering all questions in one sitting.  I then took a 15 minute break to grab snack and get some fresh air.  When I returned, I spent the next hour or so reviewing my marked answers.  Keep in mind there are typically other people taking other exams around you, so using the headphones was a......

PMHUB-G A Lessons Learned - this time CAPM

To prepare for the exam, I used the Insite online course by Velociteach; they've upgraded the course to reflect the 4th edition PMBOK. I paid $99 for the one month course and it's money well spent, I reviewed the course in its entirety twice and did several of their practice exams until I averaged around 90% from their pool of questions. I also used Farndale's PMP and CAPM prep guide (easily found on google) and took the 248 question test. Obviously, I read the PMBOK as well and used notecards to document the processes and various terms.

How the taking the exam works:

I read some tips about what to bring to the exam that may have been appropriate for people taking it overseas.  As a result, I brought a backpack loaded with various supplies.  The truth is, here in the US you should only bring the bare minimum to the Prometric exam centers where the computer-based testing is conducted.... for the complete LL, please click:

========================
This LL is one of the longest but it is worth the time to read.  As the author mentioned,  LL is a great way to start and end your journey to PMP

"I have always learnt something from reading the Lessons learned section from other's experiences so here is my personal experience (sorry for the long post).

Prep time: about 3 months with about 4hrs on weekdays and weekdays. Though 2 weeks before the exam I lost a whole week of prep since I had to travel international for work and could not invest any time in studying and was experiencing jet lag on return so not ideal last week prep.

PMHUB-G S Mondal LL - the most read PMP LL since Sept 2010

I just reviewed the stats of all LL published in PMHUB Blog and found out that this LL is the most read, the most popular LL since September 2010. (when all the hits counter were reset to 0)

I guess one of the reason is that this LL provides a framework of what to study at certain time before the exam...

"One month into my study , I discovered http://pmhub.net/forums and realized that in addition to studying Rita's book, I had also to focus on "The PMP Exam: How To Pass On Your First Try, 4th Edition – Andy Crowe" and "PMBOK Guide".
I went ahead and purchased these 2 books."

PMHUB-G Alex's PMP LL

"To cut the chase, this is my advised to any PMP aspirants (which is the same advised by Cornelius over and over again in his PMPrepcast podcast):

1. Have a well deisgned plan for your studies

2. Never delay till the last minute (student syndrome) before you begin studying (this almost hurt me)

3. Read the PMBOK guide at least three times"
