PMHUB-G Your Favorite Project Management Interview Question

Hi -

Once people pass the PMP, there is often a focus on how they can get their first project management job or the next project management job that leverages the certification.

Do you have a recommended project management interview question?

Over the past few months, I've polled project managers on their favorite project management interview questions or scenarios.  My preference is to reflect on past project scenarios and focus less on specific interview questions. In my 18 years of interviewing on both sides of the table, I found no one will hire you because you've answered the interview questions 100%. They hire you because you've made a connection, demonstrated competency and communicated how you can be a value to the team.

A lot of project management interview questions can be specific to the PMBOK and the core project management processes. However, I've found several technical and management related project management scenarios to consider.  I recently publish my Project Management Interview Questions Made Easy technique at http://www.amazon.com/Project-Management-Interview-Questions-ebook/dp/B00ANEVZ0C/ and would like to incorporate your feedback, thoughts into supporting content.

Getting the pulse of the PM community is an important one so I value your feedback.

I would suggest you opt for classroom program as it is more effective because of the interactive sessions. Pink elephant, PMstudy, PMTI are some good providers..You may check these out.

Our company (PTMC/APMX) has been providing project and program management training for well over 25 years now and I will state unequivocally that like driving a car or SCUBA diving or removing a diseased appendix that you CANNOT learn to be a project manager by studying books of sample questions..... Or listening to podcasts......

Nor does being able to pass multiple choice exams establish that you are competent as a project manager. All passing multiple choice exams validates is you can pass multiple choice exams. Not one thing more.....

The ONLY way to learn to be a project manager is by actually running projects.  Preferably under the watchful eyes of a master project manager. And this includes the ever so important SOFT skills, which are IMPOSSIBLE to develop in 3 or 5 day "cram for the exam" courses.

Since the very beginning, our PMP prep courses are 90 days long, graduate level, blended learning courses and they are 100% project based.   And our much more technically demanding AACE and INCOSE programs are a full 180 days long.  (2 semester long, graduate level, blended learning courses, where the participants have to initiate, plan, execute, control and close MULTIPLE simultaneous projects, with limited resources.....  Just like in the real world....

We are one of the very few companies which has "bucked the trend" and instead of "teaching to the exams", we believe that if we develop capable, COMPETENT project managers, that they should be able to pass any of the PMI, AACE, IPMA, INCOSE or any other organizations exams.  And given we have remained in business for over 25 years now, stands as strong evidence that our approach has earned the respect of many Fortune 500 clients.

Hey I would suggest you take a 2-4 day course with any of the training providers because that would help a lot in understanding the concepts. PMP is a relatively tougher exam and it is better to take coaching for this. there are a few good players in the market like thw PMTI, PMstudy, Simplilearn..I guess this should help you.
