Here is a list of PMP Exam myths: the first is that you must memorize ITTO from PMBOK, second: PMBOK covers everything you need to know for the exam and third is you need to get 35 contact hours from PMI REP. Let me debunk all these myths one by one.
On the first myth: many successful PMP passed their exam without any attempt of memorization. This myth arise from the expectation of aspirants that the exam is full of IITO type of questions. In fact, it is not. PMP exam is about your understanding of PM principles as described by PMBOK and general management knowledge which is covered by other PMP exam study sources.
Comments from successful aspirants in their LLs:
"Passed Feb 4, 09
Few questions required that I knew the ITTOs, I mean, there is no reason to memorize them. If had I all of ITTOs printed w/me I seriously doubt it would have helped.
Passed PMP on 8th January in Munich
I did NOT memorize ITTO's!!! and I don't feel it would have helped me.
Passed PMP on 19th Dec 2008 from Hyderabad, India
DID NOT memorize the ITTO's ( I though it is not logical to memorize so many ITTO's just for answering around 10 questions or less , We we prepare well and understand the concepts we can even do the these questions correctly) "
Dec 18th – Passed PMP – Toronto, Ontario
The approach was Print process maps , make notes of the whole knowledge area on each process maps which make more sense to me and didn't really need to memorize all ITTOs
Passed PMP on 16th Dec, 2008 (Islamabad, Pakistan)
PMHub helped me to clear few of my concepts on Project Closure and Delegation – thanks a lot!
Passed PMP on 15th Dec, 2008 (Karachi, Pakistan)
The PM exam is not to test & memorize the contents on any of the PM Books
Passed PMP on 3rd Dec 2008
Understand the concepts well and think logically, there is no need to memorize the formulas and ITTOS (at least for me, but there is no harm in memorizing them)"
