RE: PMHUB-G Risk Management Certifications

Hi Asif,

First, you CANNOT separate or isolate risk from cost or schedule or quality or scope or HR or communications or contracts…… Risk is EMBEDDED in each and every one of them.   So to try to focus on risk one needs to be proficient and competent in all the other areas.

Having said that, the “best” certification for construction is, IMPO, the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) Certified Construction Manager. (CCM) http://www.cmaanet.org/  If you prefer not to subscribe to US standards, then the UK’s Chartered Institute of Builders (CIOB) http://www.ciob.org.uk/home has a credible program as well.

Bottom line- coming from a background in construction, I think you will find PMI’s credentials to be somewhat sophomoric.

Hope this helps you?

Subject: PMHUB-G Risk Management Certifications

Dear PMHUB Members,

Greetings,

There are various Risk Management certifications available. Among them, few are rated good which are:

1.       Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP) – FRM / ERM

2.       Professional Risk Managers International Association (PRMIA) – PRM

3.       Bankers Association Institute (BAI) – CRP (specially for Risk managers in financial services)

Can you please discuss which certification is better suited for a Project Management Practitioner working on Construction Projects of limited to high complexity.

After going through various literatures available on the net, the Risk Management certification available from PMI, i.e. PMI-RMP, I feel, is narrow in scope. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks & Regards
