RE: PMHUB-G PMP Exam changes this August 31 2011

I don’t know for sure, but I know the PMP is coming under increasing scrutiny as more and more companies recognize it for what it really is- a rather basic, fundamental entry level credential.  Having some experience in the development of COMPETENCY standards, it looks to me like PMI, to their credit, is starting to move the PMP away from being knowledge based and more towards being competency based.

IF this is true (and I am doing nothing more than speculating) it should be a good thing, especially for those who took their PMP under the old exam structure.  IF I were in PMI’s shoes, the next time your PMP came up for renewal, I would require you to retest under the competency standards, not the knowledge based standards.

Now, having speculated as to where PMI is headed, the question remains- can you test for or infer competency using a multiple choice exam format? Professionally, I don’t believe so.
