RE: PMHUB-G Why is there a renewal fee for PMP?

Hi Ammar,

With over 100 million USD in the bank, despite PMI’s “not for profit” status under US IRS regulation 501(c)(3), they are for all intents and purposes a 20 million dollar per year “big business” complete with a CEO and the associated bureaucracy to support a business enterprise.

The reason I dropped my PMP (#740) and our company dropped our Global Chartered REP is because we no longer felt that PMI represented the values that I subscribe to as a lifelong professional practitioner.

FWIW, I am in the project management training and consulting business and have not lost any business as a result of dropping my PMP or in dropping our REP status.   If you are truly good at what you do, in the end, that is what the clients/employers are looking for.

Subject: PMHUB-G Why is there a renewal fee for PMP?

Hi,

I have completed 60 PDUs requirement for PMP renewal. When I went to PMI website to renew my credential, it is asking for $150. Why? One has to spend money for certification exam, then on getting the PDUs, then on annual membership subscription of global PMI and local chapter membership... this all turns out to be a significant cost. After already spending so much over the years, shouldn't one get a chance to renew the credential for free?

I am disappointed that PMI is asking for so much money from me to stay as a PMP. I do not see getting enough benefits to spend $150 on the renewal.

Anybody else have the same thoughts?

Regards,

Ammar
