Many thanks, Hector…….   I appreciate this very much…….

It raises some interesting ethical questions about PMI’s marketing policies, because if you look at the PMI website, reference is made to “membership in excess of 500,000”.  So what is “truth” here?

Also, what does it mean if an organization has certified more people than are members (~370,000 certified vs ~306,000 members?)

What message does this tell you about the “real” reason the organization exists?  Does it exist to sell certifications, books and other materials or does it exist to serve the needs of the member/owners in the practice of project management? (as was promised in writing back in 1998 or thereabouts to get the members to vote for policy governance model, which is how we lost control of the organization to the professional organization managers.)

Just some questions to ponder as you study for your PMP exam and pay for exam fees, books etc etc……..  (For those interested, also be sure to download PMI’s annual report and ask yourself what any legitimate 501(c)(3) not-for-profit professional organization is doing with over 100 MILLION dollars in assets……..  Hmmmmmm…………????? )

Hi Colleagues,

PMI used to post the total numbers of PMP’s and the last numbers I have (as of June of 2008) put the membership at ~375,000 and the total number of PMP’s at ~400,000.

Does anyone have any official numbers as of June of 2009?

(I’ve already checked the PMI website and the latest annual report, and have run several Google searches and can find nothing that gives the latest real or hard figures other than a reference to “over 500,000 members”)

Many thanks!!!
